Sydney – November 2006: Photolibrary are very proud to announce their selection as a
finalist in the Knowledge & Service Industry category for the UK Trade & Investment 2006
International Business Awards, which recognise Australian enterprises successfully investing
in the UK.
Photolibrary were chosen by a distinguished judging panel, from an initial shortlist of 30,
which itself comprised the best of the applicants who entered the UK Trade & Investment
International Business Awards 2006.
Winners across four Awards categories were announced by the British High Commissioner,
the Rt Hon Helen Liddell, at a prestigious luncheon ceremony held on Friday 20 October in
Sydney.
Jamie Banks, Director of Investment for UK Trade & Investment in Australia explained that
the Awards showcase Australian companies that are successfully ‘going global’ by developing
a strong operation in the UK. “The finalists are drawn from some of the biggest names in
Australian business, through to some of the most innovative, small companies. They
represent a range of sectors including financial services, marine, engineering and ICT.
“Australian investment projects in the UK soared by more than 25% during the past year. A
greater number of Australian companies are realising the importance of establishing a
significant presence in the UK.
Tim Moore, Chairman and Managing Director of Photolibrary says, “The UK is one of the
most sophisticated advertising and publishing markets in the world. We commenced our
offshore expansion and acquisition strategy in the UK, we refined our e-business model from
the UK and have replicated the model in eight other countries in less than four years.
“In large part due to our UK business, we are well-placed for a profitable future with strategic
niche brands backed by an enthusiastic culture in sales and content creation to service the
advertising and publishing markets worldwide.”
Moore continues: “The UK was always on the priority list for Photolibrary to distribute its
images because of the enormous book, magazine and newspaper publishing industry and
also because London is regarded as a leading creative advertising market. We are delighted
to have been considered for an Award in this category and even more delighted to have been
selected as a finalist.”
The Judging Panel comprised Charles Weiser, Chairman of Merryck & Co Australasia, the
Anglo-US CEO mentoring and strategy firm, and an Executive Director of private equity group
Pacific Palisades Capital; Dr Susan Freeman, senior lecturer and director, department of
management, Monash University, Victoria; Bernhard Hengst, senior researcher with National
ICT Australia (NICTA) whose research interests include machine learning and robotics; and
Jamie Banks, director of investment at UKTI Australia.
