Miriam was a picture researcher throughout the ten years of her working life. She enjoyed her job and took a thoroughly professional attitude towards it. The fact that the industry is paying tribute to her memory would have touched her deeply and she would have been immensely grateful.

On 7/7 2005 Miriam lost her life in the London Bombings and the picture industry remembered this tragedy through Purple Day - purple was Miriam’s favourite colour. On Thursday 10th May 2007 the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies (BAPLA) held their annual Picture Buyers’ Fair at the Business Design Centre in London and this was the focal point of Purple Day for Mim. Those attending were asked to wear something purple and make a donation to the Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund. Some picture library stalls sold purple items such as ribbons and badges. Those who were unable to attend the Fair were asked to arrange a group or individual donation.

Appreciation from John, Mavis and Esther Hyman to Deborah Hughes of Macmillan Publishers for originating Purple Day, the researchers and libraries who gave their support and Photolibrary for their donation of a mounted print of the purple flower which symbolises the event. We thank you all for remembering Miriam’s contribution to the profession.
