See Colour search in action - brief Introduction to Colour Search
What is Colour Search?
Colour Search is an image search tool that allows you to find images visually, based on the colours in the image. We’ve provided a simple interface to select an almost unlimited colour range (based on hexadecimal values) which can be easily accessed using the “More Options” search features.
How does Colour Search work?
All images are made up of lots and lots of coloured pixels. When we upload new images to our site our search system scans them and identifies the most frequently found colours in the image at the individual pixel level. These high-frequency colours are then able to be searched on via Colour Search. To make it even easier we provide you with a colour palette to make specifying the right hexadecimal colour value a simple matter of visual select-and-click.
How do I use Colour Search?
To start off with you need to enter in a search term. The search needs you to enter this in so just pop your Keyword, Brand Code or Photographer Name in, add in a colour and get searching! And if you find that the colour you chose is not quite right just click either the Clear Colours or Reset Search Options to start afresh.
Can I use Colour Search with the other search features available?
Yes, Colour Search can be used to narrow down any search query already available at Photolibrary. For example you can search for Model Released men with a hexadecimal colour value of 1844E4 in the image and get a great result set. Finding the right image at Photolibrary is now even easier!
I know the exact hexadecimal Colour value I need - can I just type it in myself?
You sure can! Enter in your Keyword, Brand Code or Photographer Name in and then you can add the hexadecimal value to the Keyword Search, preceded by the @ symbol. So a search for all the car doors with a hexadecimal value of FF0000 would be entered as car doors @FF0000. It’s that simple!
