From Da Vinci to Michelangelo to Van Gogh to Monet to Kandinsky to Rembrandt to Warhol the world has learned to appreciate and criticise art. But can all those artists and thousands more be combined together, brushed with the same comb, put on the same level. Can Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel be compared with “The Fountain” by Marcel Duchamp (a urinal put in a gallery claiming to be a piece of art)? Can da Vinci’s Mona Lisa be in the same basket as various street art, such as graffiti and abstract sculptures that by-passers take for rubbish bins?

Andy Rooney blasts the world of modern art, which he envisions as pretentious especially when displayed in large, public places in this 60 Minutes video:

But what about your own backyard? The paintings your kids make? The lovely arrangement of dead bugs your cat laid out for you on a terrace? Or perhaps some geeky office art?? We have a local talent here at Photolibrary and below is his recent piece (medium: packaging material, Tic tacs, some old box | title: The Internet Tower | philosophical value: Too deep to even begin)
